About Us
Futilitarian Librarians
Futilitarian Librarians is a project by whatever the opposite of an emo visionary is, Nicholas J Ripley. With a band name inspired by Fahrenheit 451 , Nick Ripley sought like minded musicians to take the world by storm. Punk? Metal? Flamenco? FL's style is ever changing and refuses to be confined to the industry's presets. Will our next song be a love song or death threat? One thing is for sure, whatever we do it'll be LOUD. So strap yourselves in and get ready for a ride off road, cause with FL, not even we know where we’ll go next.
Nick Ripley
Lead Singer, lead guitar
Nick here, short for Nicholas J Ripley. Vegas born and bred, I'm the frontman and creator of Futilitarian Librarians. Punk and grunge are the toxic sludge that courses through my veins, and emo and goth paint the colors of my heart. I created FL out of the ashes of my former death metal band. I went from writing songs about death and gore to writing pop punk anthems about serial killers in love. What is our genre? I'll let you decide that for yourself. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Bryan "Ducky" Dunn
Drummer
They call me Ducky, I'm the old man of the group. Been playing drums for about 22 years if that sheds any light on that subject. I grew up listening to and learning to play screamo/post-hardcore music. Nowadays I listen to jazz and RnB. I'd say my biggest influences are Mike Fuentes, Larnell Lewis, Loniel Robinson, & Anika Nilles. Throw in a lil KiKi for taste and that's pretty much ya boi.
Alex Silver
Second Guitar- Back Up Vocals
Guitarist, songwriter, and audio engineer, Alex brings a wild, unapologetic energy to FL. Influenced by the raw chaos of late '90s and early 2000s pop punk, the soul-crushing depths of blues, and the fiery intensity of flamenco, his playing is equal parts precision and reckless abandon. Originally from Puerto Rico, he moved to Las Vegas in the summer of 2024, where he instantly clicked with the band and dove headfirst into the madness. On stage, Alex is pure electricity—jumping, thrashing, possibly screaming, absolutely losing his mind (and neck) in ways that make chiropractors nervous. He’ll be the first to admit he has no clue what he’s doing half the time, but if it sounds and/or looks cool, he just rolls with it—and somehow, it works. **Definitely not written with aid from AI, because Alex wouldn’t ever need help sounding cool :) **
Phoenix
Bass Guitar - Back up Vocals
Phoenix is the bassist and backup vocalist for Futilitarian Librarians. Inspired by the music of
The Wonder Years, Alkaline Trio, and Brand New; and driven by the performances of local Las Vegas bands like Pure Sport and Elevated Undergrounds, Phoenix jumped eagerly into the music scene. Phoenix has played for bands such as Rosedrop and Riyah but has found a steady position in the lineups of both Futilitarian Librarians and Mushroom Forest.
